BASECAB Camper: Reliability without limits
Lightweight, modular, and extremely durable – engineered for those who demand absolute reliability.
Our solution merges precision engineering with real-world expedition experience from across continents. The result is a setup that combines the ruggedness of a 4x4 pickup with the uncompromising comfort of life on the road.
The BASECAB construction is entirely wood-free and eliminates all thermal bridges, ensuring extreme durability and insulation in both sub-zero frosts and scorching sun. Despite its compact footprint, the interior offers a surprisingly generous space for 4–5 people and comes fully equipped with a smart kitchenette, shower, toilet, and an independent off-grid energy system.
The camper is the ultimate choice for the active community: ski tourers, mountain bikers, surfers, and paddlers, as well as hunters and fishermen who require a practical, heavy-duty base for their adventures.
Which vehicles is BASECAB designed for?
BASECAB is far more than just a universal shell. While we start with two base platforms for European and American vehicles, we can modify the width, height, and length to ensure a perfect fit—even for extended or atypical truck beds.
If you have specific requirements for the shell dimensions, we can accommodate individual requests within our engineering limits. Thanks to this flexibility, you receive a custom configuration that fully unlocks the potential of your vehicle, whether you drive a classic European pickup or a robust American truck.
European Pickups (Mid-size)
Engineered for maximum efficiency and space optimization for all popular models:
Double Cab (5-seater): Ford Ranger (including Raptor), Toyota Hilux, VW Amarok, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, Isuzu D-Max, Mercedes-Benz X-Class, Renault Alaskan, Fiat Fullback.
American Pickups (Full-size)
For those who demand power and scale, we offer shells that fully utilize the potential of wide truck beds:
RAM 1500, Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota Tundra
Custom Solutions & Variability
Your truck bed, your rules. We adapt the construction to match your specific needs:
On Request: We can customize the BASECAB to meet specific customer requirements—such as lowering the roofline or increasing the width and length. Every modification is consulted regarding potential risks and limitations, and dimension adjustments are always performed within our strictly defined engineering limits.
Atypical & Specialty Pickups (tailored fit for specific brands and models): Ineos Quartermaster, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Land Cruiser 79, Land Rover Defender.
Single Cab (two-seater, typically utility vehicles): Standard extension of the shell by 29 cm.
Crew / Space / Extra Cab (versions with auxiliary rear seats and extended beds): Options for extended camper shells.

Why choose BASECAB?
Our camper shell adds a new dimension of freedom to your vehicle without sacrificing its natural off-road capability.
Sophisticated Engineering
The combination of an exoskeleton, endoskeleton, and three other interconnected reinforcement systems creates a structural frame ready for years of rugged expeditions. No wood, no steel = no corrosion, no rot. We use only modern materials and master craftsmanship to ensure maximum strength, longevity, and durability even in the most demanding environments.
Starting Weight: 250 kg
The perfect balance of weight and durability. With a weight ranging from 250 to 450 kg, the BASECAB avoids overloading the chassis, preserving the truck's agility off-road and comfort on the highway. The key lies in our thoughtful design and proprietary equipment, which we design, test, and manufacture in-house.
Four-Season Comfort
Insulation proven from Iceland to Morocco. Composite panels with 37mm modern PUR insulation protect you from both Arctic freezes and Saharan heat. A shell with an absolute absence of thermal bridges, combined with smart active equipment, eliminates interior condensation and ensures a stable indoor climate in any season.
Modular Equipment
An interior that adapts to you. Thanks to individual configurations of both internal and external equipment, you can transform your shell into a family expedition special or a basecamp for surfers, bikers, and skiers with ease. The integrated Airline track system, clever storage solutions, and our "Plug'n'Go" principle allow for quick equipment changes based on the type of journey.
Sleeping for up to 5 People
Comfortable sleeping and seating for up to 5 persons. The EU version features a 183 × 150 cm bed, extendable to 183 × 195 cm. The US version offers 193 × 150 cm, extendable to 193 × 195 cm. The bed extension can even be enlarged upon request. With the option to add a rooftop tent, family expeditions know no bounds.
Shower, Toilet, and Kitchen
Full amenities with an emphasis on lightweight design: portable toilet, shower with drainage, and a fully functional kitchenette. Features include portable power stations, solar panels, and alternator charging. Standard options also include independent heating, a refrigerator, water boiler, ceiling fan, Starlink satellite connectivity, and much more.
Investment in Adventure
Complete solutions for your pickup starting at 399 000 Kč (excl. VAT).
Freedom in Practice: Designed for Off-Grid Living

Full Bed Functionality
For most vehicle models, our design allows you to close the tailgate. This means you won't lose access to your backup camera or parking sensors, and you can fully utilize your hitch (tow bar) for bike racks, motorcycle trailers, or even horse trailers.

Czech Craftsmanship, European Standards
No shipping across half the globe. Everything is developed and assembled directly in our workshop. We manufacture many components ourselves or source them exclusively from Czech or European suppliers. We maintain total quality control—from the first bead of adhesive to the very last electrical connector.
Deployment in Under 30 Minutes
The BASECAB is a self-standing structure. Thanks to specialized camper jacks (loading legs), a single person can load or unload it from the truck bed in just 30 minutes. You can lower the unit as close as 27 cm to the ground and leave it at a campsite or in your yard as a standalone, fully functional living unit. Alternatively, you can place the BASECAB on a wheeled dolly and easily slide it into your garage or under a carport.

Growing with You (Modularity 2.0)
You don't have to buy everything at once. Start with the essential setup and gradually add furniture, high-tech modules, and accessories as your travel ambitions grow.

An Interior That Adapts to You
We designed the BASECAB as a modular system. With us, you don't choose where things will be, but when they will be there. Every shell is prepared for a full equipment setup right from the start. This means you can begin with a "bare" shell—just a bed and cushions—and add everything else gradually as your budget or your desire for discovery grows. Any equipment from our price list can be installed in your shell at any time in the future, without structural modifications and at the listed prices.
Your BASECAB will be exactly what you need it to be. Every traveler has different requirements, which is why we walk through every configuration with you individually—from the placement of windows to the choice of upholstery colors and exterior decals.
Browse our Optional Equipment for inspiration, but the best way forward is a personal or phone consultation. We'll be happy to discuss your needs and find the solution that makes the most sense for your journeys.

Optional Equipment for BASECAB
Our components are more than just fixed furniture; they are independent partners for your travels. You can easily remove the portable power station, refrigerator, or cooking module from the camper and use them elsewhere—at a campsite or in a remote cabin. This modularity gives you absolute control over weight and space. For a quick weekend getaway, you can head out with a light and airy shell, while for a long expedition, you can "click in" the full equipment set in just minutes.
The exterior Airline track system offers the same level of freedom. It allows you to swap gear based on your destination: ski racks in the winter, recovery boards or fuel jerry cans in the summer.
Our promise is backwards compatibility. Every new gadget or upgrade we develop is designed to fit your existing BASECAB. Your camper will never grow obsolete; it will constantly evolve with you.

Weight in Balance
BASECAB is not about chasing the lowest possible number. It is about the perfect synergy between weight, strength, insulation, and longevity. An extremely lightweight shell often means compromises—either in insulation performance or structural durability. Despite this, our shells remain among the lightest in their class.
Field Experience: The ideal weight "sweet spot" for a pickup is under 500 kg (dry weight). The BASECAB starts at 250 kg and, even when fully equipped, stays around 450 kg. With this load, the chassis is not overstressed, and the vehicle maintains predictable handling both on the highway and off-road.
How we save grams (without sacrificing quality)?
- Lightweight Interior Materials: No chipboard or heavy wood composites. We work with a combination of lightweight PVC sheets, thin beech plywood, anodized aluminum, and sophisticated 3D-printed parts.
- Proprietary Components: We avoid heavy, "one-size-fits-all" caravan solutions. We develop most parts in-house to ensure a perfect fit without a single gram of unnecessary weight.
- Premium Insulation: We use modern PUR foam with the best weight-to-thermal resistance ratio. It keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
- Monocoque Construction: Instead of a heavy internal frame, we developed a unique shell system utilizing several interconnected structural elements. The strength is built directly into the body of the unit.
Everything You Want to Know
We understand that choosing a camper shell is a major decision. To make your journey to owning a BASECAB as smooth as possible, we've gathered the most frequent questions we discuss with our customers in the showroom. Can't find the answer you're looking for? We are here to help.
What is BASECAB??
BASECAB is a lightweight, modular camper shell for pickups. It excels in its simplicity, low weight, and the ability to be configured exactly to your specific needs.
Where is BASECAB manufactured?
The entire BASECAB is designed and manufactured in the Czech Republic. We use exclusively European suppliers and personally test everything extensively on our own expeditions.
Can I come and see the BASECAB in person?
Yes! You can view the BASECAB in person, get a feel for the materials, and discuss configuration options directly with us. Simply contact us to schedule an appointment.
How long does production take?
Typically, it takes several weeks from the final specification. The exact timeframe always depends on our current production capacity and the complexity of your configuration.
Which pickups is BASECAB designed for?
The BASECAB is universal. We produce one size for European double cab pickups and a larger version for American full-size double cabs. If you own a Single Cab, Crew Cab, or an atypical model, we can adapt the dimensions.
Does the BASECAB affect the vehicle's driving dynamics?
Minimally. The low weight and optimized center of gravity ensure that the pickup maintains stability and handling, even off-road. Expect a slight increase in fuel consumption of approximately 1–2 l/100 km.
Can I take the BASECAB off-roading?
Yes. The BASECAB is designed for genuine off-tarmac travel. Its low weight, rigid construction, and simple technology are the ideal combination for mountains, gravel tracks, and remote locations.
Is the shell's skeleton strong enough for heavy off-road use?
Absolutely. The shell is held together by five different complementary technologies. We utilize a combination of exo- and endoskeletons, resulting in an extremely rigid structure with zero thermal bridges. The entire construction is significantly over-engineered for maximum durability.
What is the price of a BASECAB?
The price depends on your chosen configuration – dimensions, equipment, and accessories. However, BASECAB remains one of the most affordable high-quality camper shells on the market. We would be happy to prepare a specific quote for you.
Can I buy just the base model and add more equipment later?
This is one of our main advantages. BASECAB is an "open" system – you can add additional exterior and interior gear, furniture, or technology, or even change the layout at any time in the future.
How much does the BASECAB weigh?
BASECAB is among the lightest shells on the market. The exact weight depends on the configuration. The range for the EU version is 250–500 kg, and for the US version, it is 280–520 kg.
Can the BASECAB be removed from the vehicle?
Yes, this is a major benefit. The BASECAB is fully demountable – you can load or unload it in about 30 minutes. The shell can stand on its own legs in your garden or at a campsite, serving as a basecamp while you use your pickup independently.
How is the BASECAB secured to the pickup?
The BASECAB is secured using custom stainless steel brackets that we install, in most cases, into the manufacturer's existing mounting points. No permanent or irreversible modifications to the vehicle are required. We also install centering segments and pads – all of which are removable. This means your pickup remains technically and legally unchanged and 100% usable after the shell is removed.
What materials is the BASECAB made of?
BASECAB features a sandwich construction: Fiberglass – PU Foam – Fiberglass. No wood is used in the construction. We exclusively use stainless steel and powder-coated or anodized aluminum. This ensures that nothing on the shell can rot or rust. We use only the highest-quality adhesives and paints from industry-leading brands.
How many people can sleep in a BASECAB?
Thanks to the extendable bed, the interior features a 183x190 cm sleeping area, which can accommodate a family with children. A rooftop tent can be added for even more sleeping capacity.
Is the BASECAB suitable for year-round travel?
Yes. The shell is designed to handle summer heat as well as harsh winter conditions. Insulation, ventilation, and heating are all optimized, though performance depends on your specific configuration.
How is the electrical system handled?
BASECAB uses modern, modular energy systems. We install portable EcoFlow power stations that can be easily removed and used elsewhere. The entire system is integrated into the shell's electrical grid. Charging is possible via shore power, the alternator, or solar panels. Benefits include a user-friendly interface, mobility, and local service support.
How is the water system handled?
The core of the system is a 20L LifeSaver filtration jerry can with an optional water heating connection. Inside, you'll find a folding shower cubicle. Additional water can be stored in exterior 3x9L jerry cans or a 17L exterior pressurized shower.
What type of heating can be installed?
We install modern Planar (Autoterm) independent diesel heaters. The heater is placed in an exterior box to save interior space and eliminate noise and odors. The control panel is located inside the shell.
How is condensation managed?
The BASECAB features both passive and active ventilation. This ensures constant air exchange, reduces condensation, and increases comfort while sleeping or cooking. The absence of thermal bridges also significantly eliminates condensation issues.
What is the load capacity of the BASECAB roof?
The roof is engineered to carry gear such as solar panels, storage boxes, sports equipment, or a rooftop tent.
Proven on Your Journey
The BASECAB is more than just a product; it's a partner for thousands of miles. Explore the destinations our camper shells have reached and read the stories of those for whom the "life in the bed" has become a second home on the road.

We bought a Basecab in 2025 and we absolutely love it!! So much so, that we had to name her - Cabriella.
It immediately felt like our cosy second home. Its the perfect size for the two of us and our dog. Having the opportunity to specify everything how you want it and even to customise it to fit your needs is amazing. We asked to fit a larger fridge, Cabmaniac adapted the layout, supplied the larger fridge with mountings and then extended the kitchen unit.
The design, quality and craftsmanship is excellent, everything feels durable and built to last. The combination of wood and the composite panels gives a comfortable atmosphere; its a space you really want to spend time and relax in!
The communication and product support with Cabmaniac is friendly, easy and relaxed, exactly like you want it to be. You feel like a friend and valued customer, not just another sale.
If you are like us and were thinking about a camper van, then stop. Get a Basecab instead!!! Its much more versatile, customisable and capable. I drive the truck as my daily driver, we mount the cab for trips or weekends away. No camper van sitting for months unused, no second vehicle to insure, tax and service.
Robert Jones

I was looking for a camper shell for my pickup and ultimately decided on the BASECAB by CABMANIAC. After about 6 months of intensive use (Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy), I can confidently say I couldn't have made a better choice. Everything is perfectly and practically designed. It has everything we need for traveling as a couple—including off-grid camping: a huge comfortable bed, toilet, kitchenette, seating, hot water shower, heating, etc. Simply put, nothing is missing, and nothing feels redundant. Moreover, the customer service is incredible; you won't encounter such perfect and helpful treatment just anywhere! I recommend them ten times over! ;-)
David Mateju

While searching for a pickup camper cabin, we came across Cabmaniac, among others – luckily, we decided to go ahead with this project despite the distance (Switzerland). Even our first visit to view the site was an experience – we were given a warm welcome, were allowed to see the entire production process, and everything was explained to us in detail. It was already clear to us then that we would choose a cabin from Cabmaniac.
Everything went smoothly from the order to the final handover. The team is very reliable, responded very quickly to inquiries, and was always there to offer advice and assistance.
The Basecab is now our new vacation home. It works wonderfully for a family of four, including three small dogs. It's amazing what can be conjured up from a pickup cabin.
We have already had many unforgettable moments and are truly grateful to the entire Cabmaniac team for their work and the great product. Even after the sale, the support is still top-notch—we had a problem with the additional battery and they helped us without hesitation and in a very customer-oriented manner.
We would like to thank you once again and wish the entire Cabmaniac team all the best! Best wishes
Matt

A company owned by a husband-and-wife team who pour everything into every single camper shell! And I mean everything—a piece of themselves and a piece of their heart. Every part passes through their hands; every component is personally tested during their world travels with their children. Anyone who chooses a shell from this company gets a unique, perfect piece full of exceptional details. If you want a camper for your pickup, it has to be CABMANIAC – I can't recommend them enough.
Pavel Horejsi

The pick-up camper from Cabmaniac is superb. Even though I was initially skeptical about its size, it worked perfectly, and even as a family of four, we enjoyed our vacation immensely. For a couple, it would literally be a 'hotel on wheels'! The communication was very friendly, they explained everything perfectly, and even though my husband and I aren't exactly 'tech-savvy,' we managed to use everything without any issues.
Zuza Lulayová

Helpfulness, professionalism, and reliability. That's how I would summarize my first experience with this company. they are eager to give advice, help out, and source whatever you need... I can highly recommend them.
